This page has two jobs. First, it explains what is in the kit we write about, what it costs once every choice is added, and what it does and does not do. Second, it lists the headlines we run, tells you which ones overreach, and separates the things the seller actually says from the things a story can make you feel.
You almost certainly arrived here from an advertisement. The headline you clicked was written by us and paid for by us to appear next to real news stories. It was designed to make you stop scrolling, and some of our headlines lean harder on a story than the facts do.
Everything on this site is a paid advertisement for a product sold by someone else. If you buy through a link on any of our pages, we may be paid a commission. That is the reason this site exists.
The product is the Legacybox Digitizing Kit, a mail-in box from AMB Media, LLC dba Legacybox of Chattanooga, Tennessee: you pack old film reels, tapes or photos, send them with a prepaid label, and receive digital copies plus your originals back. It is a copying service. It is not a health product, it makes no health claim, and it does nothing for anyone's memory; the people and family scenes in our column are a dramatization.
If you or your family have noticed names, words or errands slipping, the single most useful thing you can do is tell your clinician at your next checkup. That costs you nothing from us, and it is worth more than anything we write about.
| The headline as you saw it | What is actually behind it |
|---|---|
| "Forty Years of Film Reels in the Basement, and the Projector That Quit First" | Story, not a claim The kit is real; Gene, Marlene, Arlo, the basement and the family are composites, and the column is a dramatization built on the seller's listing, reviews and policies. |
| "Our wedding came back in a cardboard box" | Broadly supported The seller copies film, tapes and photos into digital files and returns the originals. How good the copy looks depends on the condition of the film or tape that went in, and the seller's own reviews include complaints about grainy picture and sound on old tapes. |
| "About $35 a reel" | Broadly supported The 2-item Starter kit lists at $69.98 regular, about $35 per item, checked against the seller's page in October 2026. A storage choice (download, thumb drive or discs) is added on top, and the seller runs frequent sales. |
| "Film counted by the reel, not the foot" | Broadly supported The seller's film page says it does not charge by the foot but by the reel, and the kit page says one item is one reel, one tape, or one pack of 25 photos. |
| "Back in about six weeks" | Broadly supported The seller says standard processing takes around 4 to 6 weeks. Faster processing costs extra. |
| "Get back what your head let go of" | Exaggerated A copying service brings back what is on the film, not what is in anyone's head. The kit makes no health or memory claim and we do not either. |
Because stories stop the scroll better than price lists do. That is exactly the problem. We keep the honest version of every claim here so you can compare it with the ad side by side.
The kit holds no ingredients: it is a box, a guide, barcodes and a shipping label. The list above is everything it contains.

Regular kit prices: Starter 2 items $69.98, Family 10 items $319.98, Closet 20 items $639.98, Trunk 40 items $1,249.98, Vault 80 items $2,499.98. The week we checked, the seller was running a sale of 40 percent off every size; prices change.
On top of the kit you choose a storage option: a digital download, a thumb drive or a disc set. At the Starter size these were $5.99, $4.99 and $4.99; they cost more at larger sizes. Faster processing is $14.99 (about 2 to 3 weeks) or $19.99 (about 1 week) at the Starter size. Extra items beyond your kit are invoiced after check-in. After the 30-day app trial, the store sells a family plan at $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year; decide before the trial ends.
There is no unconditional satisfaction guarantee. The refund policy says that if you think something was missed on a finished order, you contact the company to set up a review, and "if we can't fix them, you get your money back," within 30 days of the order being completed.
An unused kit can be refunded in full if it has not shipped, or less shipping and a restocking fee if it has, within 30 days of ordering. A filled box already sent in for processing cannot be canceled or returned. The shipping policy places the risk of loss in transit on the customer unless an optional protection package is bought.
A mail-in copying service for old film, tape, photos and audio, counted by the item, about 4 to 6 weeks, originals returned, storage choice extra. Not a health product, not a memory aid, not instant, not cancellable once the full box is sent, and not a guarantee that old film will look new.
None of our ads should be your health information. Forgetting a name now and then is common at any age, but tell your clinician promptly if you or your family notice getting lost in familiar places, trouble with everyday tasks you used to manage, repeating the same questions, changes in personality, or any sudden change in speech, vision or balance. Sudden changes need urgent care.
Looking at old family films can be a warm afternoon. It is not a substitute for a checkup, and nothing on our pages is medical advice.
No. It copies what is on your film, tapes and photos so you can watch them on a television or computer. It makes no health or memory claim, and neither do we.
One reel, one tape, or one pack of 25 photos, per the seller's page. Film is counted by the reel, not by the foot.
About 4 to 6 weeks for standard processing, by the seller's own words. Faster options cost extra.
No. A storage option is added at checkout, faster processing costs more, extra items are invoiced, and the app is a 30-day trial.

This guide is part of the advertising page it links from. It exists because the ad that brought you here did not tell you the whole story.
If you remember nothing else: this is a mail-in copying service, the kit price does not include the storage choice, the standard wait is about 4 to 6 weeks, a filled box cannot be called back, old film comes back looking like old film, and your clinician, not a box, is the person for questions about memory.
